An explosion caused significant damage to the residence of a Congress worker in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The incident occurred at the house of Saimul Sheikh, a Congress booth president in Maniknagar village. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the intensity of the explosion led to the collapse of the roof and falling bricks, creating panic in the area.
Construction work was underway at Saimul Sheikh’s house when the explosion took place. Eyewitnesses mentioned that a group of construction workers, who were on a break drinking water, experienced a sudden blast accompanied by smoke, resulting in substantial roof damage. Promptly, officers from Farakka police station arrived at the scene to investigate the source of the explosion.
The police team is examining whether the bomb was pre-planted on the roof or thrown from outside. To prevent further tension, police patrols have been heightened in the vicinity, with the entire house cordoned off by law enforcement. A worker named Milton, who was present during the incident, expressed gratitude for narrowly escaping the blast, emphasizing the lack of any prior suspicious findings on the roof.
Hilina Khatun, the wife of the Congress leader, recounted hearing a loud noise while working on masonry at home, discovering the collapsed roof wall. She expressed relief that her children, who often played on the roof, were unharmed. Allegations from the local Trinamool leadership suggested that the explosives were stored in the Congress worker’s house to instill fear before the upcoming elections. In response, the Congress party refuted the claims, labeling the incident as a malicious scheme to defame them ahead of the polls and urged an impartial investigation by the authorities.
