An explosion occurred near the cantonment area in Khasa, Amritsar, leading to the immediate deployment of police and security agencies. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from the blast that took place around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday. Following the incident, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and forensic teams were dispatched to the site for investigation.
The Forensic Science Laboratory team has gathered samples and other material evidence from the scene, which are now undergoing analysis to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion. SP Aditya Warrier mentioned that upon receiving information about the explosion-like sound, police forces, and the Army swiftly responded to the location. Both the bomb disposal squad and forensic team conducted detailed inspections and evidence collection at the site.
In response to the explosion, the Army has cordoned off the area, maintaining heightened surveillance due to its proximity to the cantonment. An ongoing investigation is in progress, with authorities awaiting further details. This incident follows another explosion near the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar earlier that evening, allegedly caused by a scooter catching fire. Police are actively investigating the Jalandhar incident to determine the exact cause, with Gurpreet Singh, the scooter owner, currently under questioning.
