The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has overseen the export of two metric tonnes of Amrapali mangoes from women-led farmer producer companies in Jharkhand’s tribal areas to Dubai. The consignment, exported by M/s Fair Exports (India) Pvt. Ltd., is intended for retail distribution in Lulu stores in Dubai, showcasing a significant step in promoting exports from tribal and women-led farmer collectives.
These premium-quality Amrapali mangoes were sourced from three women-led Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) supported by Palash – Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). The export, flagged off on July 3, included mangoes from APEDA-registered MVM Baghima Palkot Producer Company Limited and Raidih Agri Producer Company Limited in Gumla district, as well as Mohanpur Ajeevika Mahila Kisan Producer Society in Deoghar district. Orchards developed by tribal women farmers under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, in collaboration with MGNREGA and the Jharkhand government, were the sources of these mangoes.
The export venture has brought substantial economic gains to the participating farmers, with women-led FPC members realizing nearly 180% higher returns compared to local market prices. This initiative highlights the potential of export market access in boosting farmers’ incomes and encouraging increased involvement of women producers in export-oriented agriculture. Each of the participating FPCs, with over 1,500 shareholders and representing more than 50,000 member farmers, extends the benefits of this initiative to a vast farming community.
APEDA’s sustained efforts in developing export-ready farmer collectives through capacity building, quality enhancement, and market facilitation are evident in this export success. The authority has been actively organizing capacity-building programs to equip farmer collectives with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet international quality standards, post-harvest handling practices, and export procedures, thus enabling them to cater to premium overseas markets effectively.
