At least four civilians have reportedly been extrajudicially killed by Pakistani forces in Balochistan, as per a leading human rights organization. These incidents are part of a concerning trend of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in the province. The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department strongly condemned the killing of two brothers, Imam and Muhammad Umar, who were allegedly taken into custody by security forces and later found dead with gunshot wounds.
Paank, the rights body, demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to hold those responsible accountable according to international human rights standards. Additionally, the organization called for justice for the victims’ family and an end to the alleged enforced disappearances and unlawful killings in Balochistan. Another case involved a 35-year-old tractor driver, Riaz Baloch, who died after severe torture by Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department during custody.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee revealed that Riaz Baloch was forcibly disappeared and tortured, with his family alleging extortion demands for his release. The victim succumbed to his injuries after being shifted to a hospital, highlighting the pattern of enforced disappearances and custodial torture in Balochistan. The BYC emphasized the need for global attention on the deteriorating human rights situation in the region, citing the recent killing of a 20-year-old student, Kamran Baloch, by Pakistan-backed death squads.
