A face recognition biometric attendance system will become mandatory at West Bengal Secretariat Nabanna starting June 15. The Finance Department of the state aims to enhance administrative efficiency, punctuality, and digital attendance record-keeping by introducing this system for all officers and employees at Nabanna. The rollout will extend to other state government departments gradually, with a target completion date of July 31 this year.
The decision to enforce the Face Recognition Biometric Attendance System was detailed in a memorandum issued by the Audit Branch of the Finance Department. The system’s implementation will commence at Nabanna on June 15 and will later expand to encompass all state government departments by July 31, 2026. The primary objectives include improving efficiency, punctuality, discipline, and digital record-keeping of attendance for officers and staff.
The government specified attendance regulations within the new system, designating arrivals between 10:15 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. as ‘late’ and arrivals after 11:00 A.M. as ‘absent’. Early departures before 5:15 P.M. will be considered as leaving early. Late arrivals and early departures on the same day will result in a deduction of one Casual Leave. Additionally, failure to record departure will be marked as absent, and deductions will apply for frequent late arrivals or early departures in a calendar month. All state employees are required to adhere strictly to these new regulations.
