In response to the void left by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s sudden passing, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stepped in to ensure continuity in administration and political stability. Fadnavis announced that he would personally oversee the 2026-27 State Budget, a task meticulously prepared by Ajit Pawar. He emphasized the need to fulfill Pawar’s vision and stated that he would now lead the budget work.
The unexpected loss of Ajit Pawar has led to uncertainties surrounding the upcoming state budget. Fadnavis acknowledged that while Pawar had completed much of the groundwork, he would now take charge of the remaining processes. He expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and decision-making process regarding the budget presentation in the legislature.
Fadnavis reassured that the BJP and the state government would fully support the NCP and Ajit Pawar’s family during this challenging period. He affirmed that any decisions made by the NCP regarding leadership or the family would be respected and backed by the ruling alliance. Fadnavis aimed to provide stability to the MahaYuti alliance amidst the leadership transition.
Responding to queries about the Deputy Chief Minister’s post, Fadnavis confirmed ongoing discussions with NCP leaders. He mentioned that while consultations have taken place, the final decision rests with the NCP. Fadnavis refrained from further comments until the NCP finalizes their decision on the matter.
Regarding the pending Mayoral elections in Mumbai, Nagpur, and other cities, the Chief Minister highlighted that discussions within the MahaYuti alliance are in progress. He indicated that the selection of candidates for these positions will be made after consultations with local party leaders and legislators in the upcoming days.
