In Morena district, Madhya Pradesh, a tragic incident occurred when passengers panicked and jumped from the Udaipur Intercity Express due to a false fire rumor, leading to four deaths. The incident took place near Hetampur station on June 14 around 4.15 p.m.
The chaos unfolded after the train stopped in the Hetampur-Dholpur section following an alarm chain pull by a passenger in a general coach. This prompted some passengers to jump from the train onto an adjacent railway track.
As the Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express (Train No. 20424) approached from the opposite direction, a fatal accident ensued, claiming the lives of Afreen (35), her four-year-old son Asad, Shakuntala (60), and Veerma Devi (58), as confirmed by officials.
The tragic sight of the bodies at the scene led to emotional turmoil among passengers and local residents. Railway and police officials swiftly responded to the situation, initiating rescue and relief efforts.
KK Singh, the Station In-charge of Sarai Chhola, coordinated the initial response, highlighting the prompt action taken by rescue teams upon receiving the news of the incident. Railway authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on the origin of the false fire rumor and the events that led passengers onto the adjacent track.
Senior officials from the Jhansi division have arrived at the site to supervise the inquiry and support the affected families.
