The family of Dr. Sameeksha Reddy, a 27-year-old veterinarian who tragically died while treating a pregnant hippopotamus in Shivamogga, has accused authorities of negligence. Dr. Reddy was attacked by the hippopotamus at the Tyavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari on March 20. Her uncle, Naveen, criticized officials for allowing her to approach the dangerous animal without proper caution.
Naveen highlighted that the hippopotamus, expected to give birth soon, was in a sensitive state, making the risk of an attack higher. He questioned why she was allowed to enter the enclosure so casually, emphasizing the need for maintaining a safe distance. Describing the incident as a result of authorities’ negligence, he demanded strict action against those responsible.
The family remembered Dr. Sameeksha as a compassionate and dedicated individual committed to animal welfare. Despite opportunities for a comfortable life, she chose to serve animals in need. Her uncle praised her passion for helping animals and her decision to stay in India for service rather than pursuing studies abroad. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the tragic incident.
