A female student caught using a mobile phone to cheat during the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination in Jaipur was sent to jail after being remanded to judicial custody. The student, Himanshi Tiwari, was found with the device hidden beneath her clothes during the exam. Police did not seek her custodial remand during the court hearing.
Authorities have started the process of forensic examination on the mobile phone to determine if it was used solely to search for answers or to transmit information from the question paper. The student admitted to bringing the phone to the exam hall for using AI tools to search for answers. The investigation revealed that she had taken photographs of the question paper on her phone.
Despite the presence of signal jammers around the exam center, the student was unable to transmit any information outside. Security measures were questioned as the metal detector beeped twice when she entered the exam hall, attributing it to her undergarment hooks. The incident has prompted a thorough investigation into the security breach and the involvement of examination staff.
If found guilty of using unfair means during the exam, the student could face imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. The mobile phone has been sent for forensic analysis, and a report has been submitted to the National Testing Agency (NTA).
