The biographical drama ‘Michael’, inspired by pop legend Michael Jackson’s life, was released to audiences in April. Now, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has urged for a biopic on veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty through a recent social media post. Gupta believes that Mithun Chakraborty’s journey, starting from humble beginnings to becoming a prominent figure in Indian cinema, deserves a cinematic portrayal.
Sanjay Gupta emphasized the need for a biopic on Mithun Chakraborty, drawing parallels to the story of Michael Jackson. He highlighted the actor’s rise to stardom from Kolkata, citing his struggles, sacrifices, and eventual superstardom. Gupta expressed that Mithun Da’s biopic is long overdue and should be brought to the screen.
Mithun Chakraborty, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune since 1974, made his acting debut with Mrinal Sen’s “Mrigayaa” in 1976. His performance in the film earned him critical acclaim and a National Film Award for ‘Best Actor’. The actor gained immense popularity with the 1982 hit “Disco Dancer”, which not only succeeded at the box office but also became a sensation in the Soviet Union.
Known for his diverse roles, Mithun Chakraborty has been part of several notable projects such as ‘Agneepath’ (1990), ‘Dance Dance’ (1987), ‘Swami Vivekananda’ (1998), and ‘Phool Aur Angaar’ (1993), among others. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2024 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2022 by the Government of India.
