Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has expressed worries about the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the film sector. Gupta highlighted that AI is now more commonly used as a quick fix rather than a creative tool, deviating from its original purpose as a technological advancement. He questioned how this trend affects creativity and the traditional filmmaking process.

In a series of tweets, Sanjay Gupta emphasized that the film industry is opting for AI shortcuts over utilizing it to enhance filmmaking. He criticized the industry’s preference for cost-effective AI solutions over leveraging full VFX pipelines, labeling it as a shift towards laziness rather than innovation. Gupta stressed the need for a version of AI that enhances film quality, rather than merely cutting costs.

Sanjay Gupta shared an anecdote about a crew member from Dhurandar who witnessed director Aditya Dhar’s dedication to maintaining artistic vision without taking shortcuts during production. Gupta contrasted conviction with convenience in filmmaking, emphasizing the importance of upholding creative integrity. His remarks come amidst the ongoing debate surrounding the extensive use of AI in filmmaking and its implications for creativity and traditional production methods.
