An FIR has been lodged against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly making inflammatory comments about the Home Ministry, as per police reports on Thursday. The case was registered at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station following a complaint by a lawyer. The complaint is related to Banerjee’s statements during a protest gathering in Kolkata on June 2, where she mentioned the murder of a Bangladesh national, Osman Hadi, and made remarks implicating the Union Home Ministry and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Advocate Rinki Sen Chatterjee filed the complaint against Mamata Banerjee, claiming that Osman Hadi was murdered in Bangladesh last December. The perpetrators then crossed into West Bengal in January, where they were apprehended by the state’s Special Task Force (STF). During the protest meeting on June 2, Mamata Banerjee highlighted this incident, suggesting that despite the crime occurring in another country, she was aware of the culprits and accused the Home Ministry of involvement.
Rinki Sen expressed concerns that Mamata Banerjee, by insinuating that a murder orchestrated in Bangladesh was at the behest of the Home Ministry, is escalating tensions between India and Bangladesh and tarnishing the nation’s reputation globally. Sen further stated that Mamata, once responsible for upholding national confidentiality as Chief Minister, is now inciting extremist factions after leaving office.
At the Kolkata protest event on June 2, Mamata Banerjee remarked, “The STF apprehended a suspect from Bangladesh, leading to significant unrest there. I am not discussing other nations, but the issue is individuals entering Bengal through Meghalaya. Upon their arrival, the STF takes them into custody. The Home Minister himself acknowledged this… I refrained from stating this for a while, but today I am voicing it.”
