In a boost to India’s fresh fruit export sector, 12.5 tonnes of premium Dashehari and Langra mangoes from Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha have been sent to Dubai via a 40-foot refrigerated container by sea. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare confirmed this successful shipment, which was carried out by Shehnaz Export, Amroha, in collaboration with Attashi Global and supplied to Lulu Group in the UAE.

The export initiative was made possible through a sea-route protocol developed jointly by the ICAR–Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (ICAR-CISH), Lucknow, and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The mangoes, harvested on June 22, underwent post-harvest management practices recommended by ICAR-CISH to ensure quality.

Officials mentioned that the mangoes were treated with METWASH technology to extend their shelf life, graded, and packed at the Amroha Pack House before being shipped in a refrigerated container under a continuous cold-chain system. Despite weather-related delays, the consignment reached Dubai on July 17 after a 25-day transit period from harvest to market.

Nearly 90% of the mangoes arrived in marketable condition, showcasing the effectiveness of the technology and export protocol. This successful shipment signifies a milestone as it proves that premium Indian mangoes can be economically exported via sea freight without compromising quality. The sea-route protocol is seen as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to air cargo, potentially boosting farmers’ earnings.
