Mumbai, Aug 1 (IANS) Maharashtra Cyber has registered an FIR against unidentified persons in connection with an allegedly inflammatory video shared from the X account of Congress leader Bhai Jagtap, officials said on Saturday.

While the video was posted through Jagtap’s social media account, the FIR has, for now, been registered against an unknown accused, with no individual named in the case.

According to the complaint, the matter came to light on July 31, 2026, when the complainant was browsing social media at around 2 p.m. During this time, he came across a post published from the X account ‘Bhaijagtap1’.

The post carried a video with the caption, “Delhi Police makes serious allegations against the government.” In the video, a man portrayed as an IPS officer is purportedly seen announcing his resignation while making serious allegations against the government.

In the video, the individual is heard saying, “I am submitting my resignation from the Indian Police Service with immediate effect. The government was expecting me to come before the press and tell blatant lies about the students who were demanding their rights on the streets. I was asked to prove them guilty, but I cannot be a part of any system that stops me from telling the truth and forces me to implicate innocent students.”

“These students are not terrorists; they are the future of our country. I chose the police job to stand by the truth, not to sell lies. I cannot be a part of this act of the government. From today, I am not with the government, but with these students.”

The complainant alleged that the video is fabricated and was created using Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the complaint, the visuals, voice and dialogue attributed to a Delhi Police officer had allegedly been artificially generated and manipulated using AI technology.

The complaint further stated that the Delhi Police had already fact-checked the video on July 28 and declared it to be completely fake.

According to the complainant, the Delhi Police had also publicly clarified the matter through its official social media platform, and a copy of that clarification has been attached along with the complaint submitted to Maharashtra Cyber.

Despite the fact-check, the complainant alleged that the video continued to be circulated without verification after being shared from the ‘Bhaijagtap1’ account.

According to the complaint, the content was shared without verifying its authenticity and was capable of misleading the public. It further alleged that the objective behind circulating the video was to spread confusion in society, propagate false information against the government, and create dissatisfaction and unrest among the public.

Although the disputed video appeared on Bhai Jagtap’s X account, officials have not named any individual in the FIR at this stage. The case has instead been registered against an unknown accused.

Maharashtra Cyber has initiated an investigation into the matter.

Further details are awaited.
