Five factory workers in Dinhata, Cooch Behar district of north Bengal, were electrocuted to death when an 11,000-volt overhead electric line came into contact with them during work at a stone-cutting factory. The incident occurred in the Dinhata Village-II Gram Panchayat area under Dinhata police station limits. The workers, identified as Mukul Verma, Raju Sen, Mithun Pal, Suman, and Sanjay Verman, all residents of Cooch Behar district, died on the spot.

District administration sources confirmed the identities of the deceased workers and stated that the bodies were recovered by police personnel, including the Inspector-in-Charge of Dinhata police station. The bodies were then sent for post-mortem examination at a local hospital. Dinhata Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Prashant Debnath expressed deep regret over the incident, mentioning that the workers died while using a lift for construction work. He assured a thorough investigation into the matter and extended support to the families of the deceased.

Following the tragic incident, tension gripped the area as relatives of the deceased workers gathered at the hospital, demanding a comprehensive investigation. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and to ascertain if any negligence contributed to the workers’ deaths.
