Five people lost their lives in a tragic incident when a small aircraft, a Cessna 421C, crashed near Wimberley in Texas Hill Country. The crash took place late on the night of April 30, prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene. The town of Wimberley, where the crash occurred, is situated about 15 miles west of San Marcos and approximately 40 miles southwest of Austin.
Authorities confirmed that all five individuals on board the aircraft perished in the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been informed and will be leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. The aircraft was reported to have been traveling at a high speed at the time of impact, with no evidence of a mid-air collision based on initial assessments.
A second aircraft flying nearby at the time managed to land safely in New Braunfels. It remains unclear whether the two planes were flying together or their points of departure. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed, with officials stating that this information will be shared after notifying their next of kin. The Cessna 421C involved in the crash is a twin-engine aircraft commonly used for private and business travel.
This unfortunate incident marks the second fatal plane crash in Texas Hill Country in recent times. In a previous crash in December, a Lancair Legacy aircraft crashed near Fredericksburg, resulting in the death of the sole occupant. Small aircraft accidents, though uncommon, are thoroughly investigated by the NTSB, which examines various factors such as mechanical issues, weather conditions, and pilot actions before issuing a final report.
