A tragic incident occurred in Mangaluru when a huge tree, uprooted by heavy rain and strong winds, fell on a moving school bus near Kalletti Daivasthana. The incident resulted in the death of a five-year-old UKG student and left two other children injured.
The deceased child has been identified as Chiranvi, the five-year-old daughter of Chandrashekhar from Perne. The bus, belonging to Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka, was transporting children home when the tree collapsed on it while en route to Perne via Budoli.
Two students, Anvi and Kshithi Rai, were injured in the accident. Anvi, from Peraje Sadikukku, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru for specialized care. Kshithi Rai from Perne is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kalladka.
The falling tree not only damaged the nearby Kalletti temple but also disrupted power supply and blocked vehicular movement in the area for hours. This unfortunate incident has led to an outpouring of grief in Perne and neighboring villages, with calls for authorities to prioritize the identification and removal of hazardous roadside trees to prevent similar accidents during the monsoon.
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara expressed shock over the tragedy and assured support to the affected families. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing compensation to the bereaved family and ensuring the best possible treatment for the injured children. Parameshwara also urged District In-charge Minister J&K L-G Khader to oversee relief efforts personally.
Police and revenue officials have initiated an inquiry into the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the tree collapse.
