The Food Safety Administration in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district confiscated approximately 640 liters of suspected substandard ghee valued at nearly Rs 3 lakh and gathered 21 food samples during a recent inspection drive. This enforcement action was part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to combat adulterated and substandard food products. A joint team of Food Safety Officers conducted inspections at five food establishments under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s Risk-Based Inspection System (RBIS), focusing on monitoring high-risk food businesses.
Officials discovered stocks of “Vastu” brand ghee from Gujarat at M/s Krish Enterprises in Lasudiya Mori and seized around 640 liters of the product due to suspicions about its quality. The seized ghee, worth nearly Rs 3 lakh, will undergo laboratory analysis as a precautionary measure. Additionally, samples were collected from different pack sizes for further testing. Indore Collector Shivam Verma emphasized the importance of ensuring the availability of pure, safe, and quality food products in the district.
During the inspections, an expired “Yeole Without Sugar Premix” was found at a Yeole Tea outlet in Navlakha and promptly disposed of on-site. Samples of ginger tea, premix, and aam panna were taken for testing. Further food samples, including milk, paneer, ghee, curd, muffins, and premix products, were collected from FA Gift Pvt Ltd, Sai Kripa Milk Dairy, and Ashik Dairy Farm. All samples have been dispatched to the State Food Testing Laboratory in Bhopal for analysis, and any violations confirmed by the test reports will lead to legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Verma reiterated the district administration’s commitment to taking strict action against those who breach food safety standards. He urged the public to report instances of food adulteration or the sale of expired food items through designated platforms to facilitate prompt intervention.
