Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri participated in the degree distribution event for international students at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He encouraged the graduates to use their knowledge to tackle challenges in the Global South amidst rapid technological changes.
The ceremony, which honored international students completing various programs at IIT Madras, showcased academic achievements. Students from different nations who studied at the prestigious technical institution came together for the event.
As the chief guest, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri praised the graduating students and emphasized the importance of applying advanced skills to address global issues, especially in developing countries. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted his message urging graduates to utilize their expertise for the benefit of humanity and the Global South.
The event underscored India’s emergence as a preferred education hub for students from developing regions. Through top-tier institutions like IIT Madras, India fosters academic collaboration and enhances diplomatic ties with partner countries, contributing to global advancements in science, technology, and innovation.
IIT Madras, through its Office of Global Engagement (OGE), has been actively enhancing opportunities for international students. Various pathways, scholarships, and support systems are offered to overseas applicants, reflecting the institute’s commitment to attracting talent globally and promoting diversity in education.
Programs associated with IIT Madras Zanzibar have further bolstered academic interactions with African students, despite the campus’s separate operations. The institute’s efforts, including outreach initiatives, scholarship schemes, and collaborations, have led to a rise in international student enrollment, particularly from Global South nations.
