Former actress Anu Aggarwal has shared her thoughts on the ongoing discussions surrounding the film “Peddi,” which have raised questions about how women are depicted in movies. Anu Aggarwal, reflecting on her own experiences in the industry, stressed the significance of maintaining dignity in storytelling. She highlighted that the responsibility for portraying women respectfully falls not only on filmmakers and audiences but also on actors when selecting roles.

Anu Aggarwal took to Instagram to express her views, stating, “The recent discussions about Peddi brought back memories of a decision I made long ago.” She commended today’s viewers for advocating for more dignified portrayals of women in films. Anu Aggarwal emphasized that actors also play a crucial role in upholding dignity, recalling her choice to prioritize hearing a film’s story before accepting a role over 30 years ago, in a time when objectification of women was prevalent in the industry.

The actress underscored her stance against the objectification norm by selecting roles that aligned with her values. Anu Aggarwal revealed that her film choices reflected her commitment to respecting women on screen. Encouraging aspiring actors to prioritize story content, she urged them to question and reject roles that compromise human dignity. Anu Aggarwal emphasized the power of actors in influencing storytelling and called for a collective effort to demand better narratives in cinema.

Anu Aggarwal’s remarks come in the wake of the controversy surrounding the movie “Peddi,” featuring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. Criticism arose over the portrayal of Janhvi’s character, Achiyyamma, with some viewers deeming it objectifying and contentious. Director Buchi Babu Sana responded to the online backlash by publicly apologizing and confirming that contentious scenes would be edited to address concerns about the character’s depiction.
