Ending weeks of speculation, former AIADMK legislator R.T. Rajendran announced his retirement from electoral politics. Rajendran, who represented the Kunnam Assembly constituency, lost in the 2021 elections and has decided to step away from public life.
Citing personal reasons and advice from his doctor, Rajendran expressed his intention to disengage from active politics. He had a long political career in Tamil Nadu, serving as the Perambalur district secretary of AIADMK.
Despite expectations of joining the ruling DMK, Rajendran has chosen not to align with any party. His decision comes amidst political realignments in Tamil Nadu as parties gear up for the 2026 Assembly elections. Rajendran’s departure is seen as significant, leaving a void in the Kunnam constituency’s political landscape.
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Rajendran emphasized his desire to focus on personal and family commitments. Known for his grassroots leadership and local engagement, his exit may prompt a shift in leadership dynamics for both AIADMK and DMK in the region.
