A court in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district has placed former minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Seediri Appalaraju in judicial custody for 14 days. The case against him involves allegations of tampering with evidence in a hit-and-run incident involving his son. Appalaraju was arrested from his residence in Kasibugga and later transferred to Ampolu jail near Srikakulam after the court’s decision.
Appalaraju is accused of misleading investigators and tampering with evidence related to the hit-and-run case where his son, Arav Varma, was allegedly involved. The incident, which occurred on July 10, resulted in the death of a 45-year-old man named Danayya. Initially, the police had registered a case against another individual, Siddardh, a friend of Arav, but subsequent CCTV footage revealed Arav’s involvement in the accident. Both Arav Varma and Siddardh were subsequently arrested.
The former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized Appalaraju’s arrest, claiming that it was politically motivated. Reddy accused the Chandrababu Naidu Government of using the road accident as a tool for political vendetta. He highlighted that the arrest of Appalaraju, following his son’s arrest, was part of a larger scheme to target the YSRCP leader’s family.
