Former Assam Congress President, Bhupen Kumar Borah, criticized his former party following a significant defeat in the Assembly elections. Borah, who joined the BJP before the polls, emerged victorious in the Bihpuria Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.
Speaking to the press, Borah praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the BJP’s strong electoral performance, attributing it to the government’s development initiatives. He highlighted the public’s endorsement of the BJP’s governance approach through the election results.
Borah emphasized that the electoral outcome in Bihpuria demonstrated public satisfaction with the BJP government’s work and a rejection of the Congress’ campaign narrative. He commended the BJP’s organizational strength and development-focused policies, contrasting them with the narrative put forth by the Congress.
The former Assam Congress President also criticized the current Assam Congress President, Gaurav Gogoi, suggesting that the party had significantly weakened under his leadership. Borah claimed that the Congress faced setbacks in its traditional strongholds and failed to maintain the momentum it had during previous elections.
Borah further alleged that internal divisions and external influences had harmed the Congress party in Assam. He hinted at the possibility of the Congress appointing a minority community leader as the state party leader due to the composition of its remaining elected representatives.
The BJP-led NDA secured a decisive victory in Assam, securing a comfortable majority in the 126-member Assembly.
