Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has indicated that the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, commencing on March 28, might mark the end of MS Dhoni’s tenure with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Chopra mentioned that Sanju Samson is poised to succeed Dhoni and advised the veteran player to contemplate retirement if he continues solely as an Impact Player for CSK.
Chopra emphasized the importance of being actively involved on the field in cricket, highlighting Dhoni’s exceptional game-reading skills as his key strength. He expressed his belief that this season could potentially be Dhoni’s final one, considering the emergence of Sanju Samson as the heir apparent for CSK.
Addressing Dhoni’s role within the team, Chopra drew an analogy, suggesting that for growth, one must sometimes let go. He indicated that if a successor has been identified, Dhoni should step back to allow the new leadership to flourish, implying that Dhoni has already begun this transition.
As Chennai Super Kings kick off their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, all eyes will be on MS Dhoni’s performance and contribution to the team.
