Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik commended teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his ability to excel in challenging situations. Sooryavanshi, aged 15, is currently part of the Indian team for the ongoing T20I series in Ireland before heading to England for a five-match series starting on July 1 in Durham.
Sooryavanshi, representing Rajasthan Royals, earned his first India call-up following a remarkable IPL 2026 season where he scored 776 runs in 16 innings at a striking rate of 237.30, including 72 sixes. His talent was further highlighted by a stellar performance in the Under-19 World Cup, where he scored 175 runs in the final against England to secure India’s victory.
Karthik praised Sooryavanshi’s progress through various levels of cricket, noting his success against both minor and major teams. The young talent’s exceptional performance in crucial matches, including facing top bowlers like Pat Cummins, has impressed many in the cricketing world. Karthik likened Sooryavanshi’s natural batting style to that of renowned cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, emphasizing the importance of preserving his unique technique.
Reflecting on the challenges of bowling to Sooryavanshi, Karthik, who served as RCB’s batting coach-cum-mentor in IPL 2026, recalled the difficulty in finding his weaknesses during a match at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati. Despite attempts to exploit his vulnerabilities with well-directed deliveries, Sooryavanshi’s solid technique and adaptability made him a formidable opponent on the field.
