Former Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil has been appointed as the mentor for Mumbai’s men’s teams at all levels for the upcoming 2026/27 domestic season, as announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Patil, who represented India in 29 Tests and 45 ODIs between 1980 and 1986 and was part of the 1983 ODI World Cup-winning squad, will offer strategic guidance, technical expertise, leadership development, and motivational support to players and coaching staff across all men’s teams.
His responsibilities will encompass player development, tactical education, leadership mentoring, match reviews, talent identification, and active participation during preparatory camps and tournaments. MCA President Ajinkya Naik expressed confidence that Patil’s vast experience and deep understanding of Mumbai cricket will be invaluable in nurturing the next generation of cricketers.
In a significant move, the MCA has also appointed former India cricketer Arundhati Ghosh as the Women’s Tournament Coordinator to oversee and streamline the women’s cricket setup in the city. Ghosh, who played eight Tests and 11 ODIs for India, will be in charge of planning and executing women’s tournaments, local leagues, selection trials, and specialized camps.
She will collaborate closely with players, coaches, selectors, and MCA administration to drive developmental initiatives. MCA Secretary Prof. Dr. Unmesh Khanvilkar highlighted that these appointments are part of the association’s broader efforts to establish a strong support system for the season. The aim is to provide the best possible support structure for players, contributing significantly to the development and success of Mumbai cricket.
