Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his support for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli amid discussions about their cricketing future. Ashwin emphasized that the experienced pair has the right to determine when they retire from the sport. Following Rohit’s impressive 138 in the series decider against England at Lord’s, Ashwin highlighted that as long as Rohit and Kohli are willing to play for India, they should not be overlooked due to their outstanding track records.
Ashwin praised Rohit’s performance, noting his control and potential for an even higher score during the match. He commended Rohit’s resilience, suggesting that the innings showcased his comeback from an injury. Ashwin believed that Rohit, if in a better state, could have scored even more runs and led India to victory.
Additionally, Ashwin mentioned that Rohit’s current motivation stems from his personal goal of participating in the upcoming ODI World Cup, rather than from external pressures to prove himself to critics. He emphasized that Rohit’s focus lies on his internal drive to excel and contribute to the team’s success.
Despite Rohit’s stellar innings, India fell short, posting 360/7 as England secured a 27-run victory at Lord’s, ultimately winning the three-match ODI series 2-1.
