Former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More has lauded the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, stating that the tournament has exceeded expectations so far. More highlighted the thrilling start to the season and expressed anticipation for the heightened intensity in the upcoming matches, with several competitive teams vying for victory and no clear frontrunner emerging yet.
One notable trend in IPL 2026 has been the significant increase in scoring, indicating a shift in batting strategies among teams. After 38 matches, excluding the PBKS vs KKR washout, the average first-innings score has risen to 186, surpassing the 178 recorded at the same stage in IPL 2025.
Teams in the current season are consistently aiming for higher scores, as reflected in the rise of the average total score per match from 356 to an impressive 372. The frequency of 200-plus totals has notably surged, with teams crossing the 200-run mark 31 times in the first 39 matches of IPL 2026, compared to 21 times in the equivalent period last season.
More also shared his excitement about the inaugural EUT20 Belgium League, emphasizing its significance as a new venture for cricket in Europe. He praised the league for attracting top players and current talent, underscoring its potential to enhance the sport’s appeal on the continent.
