Former India wicketkeeper-batter Saba Karim commended Sai Sudharsan for his composed innings in the one-off Test against Afghanistan. Sudharsan, taking on the crucial No. 3 position, scored a confident 81 runs despite an early scare due to a missed catch by the opposition.
Karim highlighted India’s recent struggles against quality spin, emphasizing the importance of monitoring Sudharsan’s technique, especially in facing spin bowling challenges. He mentioned that India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir would be closely observing this aspect.
Noting a technical flaw in Sudharsan’s batting against spin, Karim pointed out that the left-hander seemed to rely more on his pad than his bat for defense, leading to a near-dismissal opportunity. Despite this lapse, Karim praised Sudharsan’s overall temperament and shot selection during the innings.
Impressed by Sudharsan’s performance, Karim mentioned the opportunity for the young player to prove himself further and deliver significant scores as he has the backing of the Indian team management. Sudharsan’s solid innings at No. 3 position contributed significantly to India’s strong start against Afghanistan in the Test match.
