Former Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Kedar Jadhav honored the courageous soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas. This day commemorates India’s triumph in the 1999 Kargil War and pays respect to the 527 soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Vijay. It also recognizes the valor and resilience of the numerous personnel who fought under extremely challenging conditions.

Virender Sehwag, reflecting on the sacrifices made, highlighted the selflessness and dedication of the soldiers. He emphasized their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, expressing gratitude for their sacrifices that ensure peace and security for all. Kedar Jadhav also paid his respects, praising the soldiers for their indomitable spirit and patriotism displayed on the battlefield of Kargil.

The Kargil conflict, a significant event from May to July 1999, remains the only conventional war between two nuclear-armed neighboring countries. Fought at altitudes exceeding 5,000 meters in the rugged terrains of Kargil, Dras, Batalik, Mushkoh, and Kaksar in Ladakh, the war showcased the bravery and strategic prowess of the Indian forces. Despite facing severe weather conditions and well-fortified enemy positions, the Indian troops successfully repelled the Pakistani intruders without crossing the Line of Control (LoC), earning global acclaim for their professionalism and restraint.

The victory in Kargil not only symbolizes India’s military strength but also signifies a pivotal moment that reshaped the country’s defense preparedness, strategic outlook, and security infrastructure. It stands as a testament to the gallantry and sacrifice of the soldiers who safeguard the nation’s borders with unwavering dedication and valor.
