Former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi has encouraged Bangladesh to travel to India for their matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, emphasizing India’s safety and advising against politicizing the issue. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had expressed security concerns and requested a relocation of their matches from India following a decision by the BCCI to release a Bangladeshi player from the IPL squad.
Despite the ICC Board rejecting Bangladesh’s demand, the BCB maintained its stance on traveling to India for the T20 World Cup. Lalit Modi urged Bangladesh to adhere to the schedule, highlighting India’s history of providing security at sporting events without incidents. He expressed confidence in the Indian government’s ability to ensure the safety of all participating teams.
Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Adviser, Asif Nazrul, reiterated their decision not to play matches in India, citing a lack of justice from the ICC. He mentioned plans to propose playing in Sri Lanka instead. The ICC, however, reaffirmed that the T20 World Cup will proceed as planned, with Bangladesh’s matches scheduled to take place in India.
