Former Karnataka Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai raised concerns about alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, attributing them to state government interference. Bommai called for the immediate suspension of officials involved in the process, citing pressure and inducements faced by tahsildars, village accountants, teachers, and Booth Level Officers (BLOs.
In a press conference in Gadag, Bommai highlighted instances of irregularities, such as electoral roll preparation inside a mosque instead of conducting house-to-house verification. He emphasized the need for swift action, urging the Election Commission to replace implicated officials and deploy special inspection squads for oversight.
Bommai further accused the authorities of allowing duplicate entries in the electoral rolls, alleging manipulation through changes in personal details. He stressed the importance of upholding democratic rights and called for accountability from Deputy Commissioners in addressing these irregularities.
The BJP leader criticized the deviation from prescribed procedures, where BLOs were reportedly scanning documents at centralized locations instead of visiting households. Bommai urged for strict measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and emphasized the responsibility of officials to act impartially.
