Former Maine Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Nirav Shah, a well-known figure during the Covid-19 pandemic, has declared his bid for the US Senate. Shah aims to challenge long-serving Republican Senator Susan Collins. He plans to embark on a “Defeat Susan Collins Town Hall Tour” across Maine to garner support for his campaign.
Shah’s campaign message emphasizes inclusivity, inviting supporters of suspended Democratic candidate Graham Platner to join his cause. He highlights values such as promoting equal opportunities for all, community solidarity, and ensuring accountability for politicians like Donald Trump and Susan Collins.
Advocating for progressive policies, Shah pledges to champion initiatives like Medicare for All to prevent medical-related bankruptcies. He also vows to address income inequality by ensuring that billionaires and major corporations pay their fair share. Additionally, he promises to advocate for immigrant rights and to end what he calls Trump’s reckless foreign policies.
Shah strongly criticizes Collins, accusing her of aligning with President Trump’s interests at the expense of Maine residents. He asserts that Collins’ long tenure in Washington has not yielded significant benefits for Maine families. Shah condemns Collins for consistently supporting Trump’s agenda and failing to prioritize the needs of Mainers.
