The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has apprehended Mohammad Tasleem, a former member of the Abdul Latif gang, who had been absconding for around seven years. Tasleem, a convict in the 1992 Radhika Gymkhana massacre case and an accused in the murder of former Rajya Sabha MP Rauf Valiullah, had escaped custody during a temporary parole release in 2019.
Following specific intelligence inputs, a team of officers located Tasleem in Rajasthan and arrested him in Udaipur. Tasleem, also known as Mohammad Tasleem Mohammad Umar Sheikh, was a key operative and shooter for the Abdul Latif gang during the gang conflict period in the 1990s in Ahmedabad. He was involved in the Radhika Gymkhana Club attack that resulted in nine deaths and the murder of Rauf Valiullah.
Tasleem had been actively evading arrest by changing his identity and engaging in property-related activities to avoid suspicion. He had been altering his location, identity, and means of communication across multiple states to escape capture. Legal procedures are now in progress to transfer him to Sabarmati Central Jail for further processing.
