Former Union Minister and ex-Punjab BJP President Vijay Sampla criticized the state government for using the sensitive sacrilege issue to divert attention from its failures. He expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to deliver justice in the Behbal Kalan firing case despite promises made before coming to power. Sampla alleged that the government was leveraging the emotions of the Sikh community for political gains as elections approached.
Sampla reiterated the BJP’s stance on the Behbal Kalan incident, emphasizing the need for a thorough and fair investigation to identify and punish all responsible parties. He highlighted his appearance before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Chandigarh, stating that it was the fourth summons issued to him. Sampla raised concerns about the lack of certified documents provided by the SIT during questioning, emphasizing the importance of reliable evidence in the digital age.
Sampla questioned the SIT’s initiation of an inquiry based on a publicly shared memorandum from 2018, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency in the process. Despite spending hours before the SIT, he emphasized the necessity of certified documents to ensure the integrity of the investigation. Sampla criticized the SIT for not fulfilling his repeated requests for certified copies, citing concerns about the potential manipulation of digital documents.
