Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has supported Shiv Sena(UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s proposal for regional parties that originated from Congress to reunite with the party and stand together under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. Gehlot emphasized the importance of opposition unity in the current political scenario, stressing the need for a collective effort to safeguard democracy.
Gehlot acknowledged the validity of Sanjay Raut’s suggestion, stating, “It is time to fight for democracy’s preservation.” He advocated for parties that had separated from Congress to reconsider rejoining and fully endorse Rahul Gandhi as their leader. According to Gehlot, projecting a distinct and resolute leadership figure for the INDIA bloc is crucial for the nation.
Highlighting the significance of a clear message regarding Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Gehlot asserted, “A unified acceptance of Rahul Gandhi’s leadership by all opposition parties could significantly alter the country’s voting dynamics.” He clarified that his remarks were not aimed at parties with established independent political identities but urged newly formed parties to prioritize national interests.
Expressing apprehension about the state of democratic institutions, Gehlot voiced his concerns, stating, “I believe democracy in this country is facing a severe threat.” He emphasized the urgent need for all political factions to prioritize the protection of democratic values amidst the current challenges.
Encouraging youth participation in public life, Gehlot urged students and young citizens to engage in politics based on ideological convictions. He emphasized the importance of active involvement in the democratic process, irrespective of political differences, to strengthen democracy and contribute to the nation’s progress.
