Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the BJP-led state government for the significant drop in school enrollment in government schools. Data from the UDISE+ report revealed a decline of over 8.4 lakh students in school enrollment across Rajasthan over the past two years.
Gehlot expressed concern over the state’s history-making shift where private school enrollments have surpassed those in government schools. He emphasized that this trend reflects a diminishing trust in the government education system by the public.
Pointing fingers at the state government, Gehlot attributed the decline to various factors such as assigning non-academic duties to teachers, deteriorating school infrastructure, delays in maintenance works, and the politicization of education, all of which have negatively impacted the learning environment.
According to Gehlot, the reforms introduced by the previous Congress government to strengthen public education have been weakened by the current BJP administration. He highlighted the detrimental effects of these changes on the education system and questioned the Chief Minister’s role in jeopardizing the future of Rajasthan’s children.
