Troubles escalate for ex-Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Mahesh Joshi as the Rajasthan High Court rejects a petition challenging his arrest. The court’s decision ensures Joshi remains in judicial custody following allegations in the Jal Jeevan Mission corruption case.
A division bench, including Justice Umashankar Vyas and Justice Ashok Kumar Jain, dismissed a habeas corpus petition filed by Joshi’s son, Rohit Joshi. The petition questioned the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s actions during the arrest, claiming violations of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Advocates representing the petitioner argued that the arrest violated procedural laws, alleging that timely information about the grounds for arrest was not provided to family members. The state government, however, defended the legality of the arrest, stating that due process was followed and family members were informed during the arrest.
The case revolves around alleged irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission implementation during the Ashok Gehlot government in 2021. Investigations suggest that private firms secured PHED contracts through forged documents, leading to a high-profile corruption probe involving Mahesh Joshi.
