Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis commended Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, labeling him a valuable asset for any captain. Bumrah played a crucial role in India’s thrilling semi-final victory over England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Despite a high-scoring match where both teams surpassed 240 runs, Bumrah’s standout performance with the ball helped India secure a memorable 7-run win and a spot in the tournament final. Du Plessis emphasized Bumrah’s ability to deliver under pressure, stating that having him in the team is akin to possessing a game-changing superpower.
In the run-heavy game that saw a total of 499 runs scored, Bumrah conceded only 33 runs with an impressive economy rate of 8.25, along with a crucial wicket. Du Plessis also highlighted Bumrah’s unique bowling action, making it challenging for batsmen to anticipate his deliveries, even when he misses his mark.
Du Plessis further credited India captain Suryakumar Yadav for effectively utilizing Bumrah during the tense final phase of the match. He praised the strategic captaincy and leadership displayed by India in utilizing Bumrah at crucial moments to control the run rate and secure wickets.
India is set to face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
