Former state minister Aroop Biswas encountered protests from a group of lawyers at the Judge’s Court in Kolkata. The lawyers gathered outside his lawyer’s chamber with eggs, demanding refunds from ticket sales for Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour event held last December. Another group of lawyers attempted to calm the protesters, but the situation escalated, leading to the police escorting Biswas out of the chamber amid egg-throwing incidents.
Earlier that day, Biswas appeared at Bidhannagar South Police Station in connection with a complaint filed against him by the main event manager of Messi’s event. He was questioned for three hours, with the entire session being recorded. Biswas, a former Trinamool MLA, has received protection from the Calcutta High Court in the Messi case, preventing strict police action against him until July 2, subject to certain conditions.
After leaving the police station, Biswas visited the Judge’s Court in Alipore to meet his lawyer, Gopal Halder. Upon his arrival, a section of lawyers protested outside the lawyer’s chamber, leading to a confrontation where eggs were thrown. Despite efforts by some lawyers to explain that access to the lawyer’s chamber should not be restricted, the protests persisted. Eventually, Biswas was escorted out of the chamber by the Kolkata Police amidst ongoing demonstrations.
