Former Union Minister Dilip Ray has announced his candidacy for the Rajya Sabha elections as an independent candidate. Ray confirmed his decision to media, stating that he will file his nomination on March 5. He expressed optimism about his chances of winning the polls, having garnered support from various political figures.

With the backing of the BJP, Ray is confident of securing the necessary votes for his candidacy. He mentioned plans to approach leaders of the BJD and the INC to seek their support as well. Ray emphasized his positive relationships with all parties and expressed confidence in receiving widespread backing.

The Odisha BJP has officially declared its support for Ray in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. State BJP president Samal affirmed the party’s decision to back Ray, citing principles. He expressed certainty in Ray’s victory and his eventual entry into the upper House.

Elections have been necessitated by the retirement of four Rajya Sabha members from Odisha. Notable figures departing include representatives from both the BJD and BJP. With Ray’s entry into the race, the competition for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat has intensified, making it a closely watched contest.
