Former West Bengal Congress President, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who served as a five-time Lok Sabha member, has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance in implementing special development projects in his native Murshidabad district. Chowdhury emphasized the need for initiatives like establishing an airport and a railway coach factory in the region to enhance connectivity, trade, tourism, and employment opportunities. He also highlighted the urgent requirement to address the issue of severe erosion along the Ganga-Padma river system in Murshidabad.
Chowdhury, who lost his seat in the Lok Sabha to cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan in 2024, underscored the significance of setting up a skill development center in Murshidabad, considering the district’s high number of migrant workers. He further stressed the tourism potential of Murshidabad, suggesting that with government support and investments, the region’s historical and heritage sites could be leveraged to create jobs and stimulate the local economy.
