Former West Bengal minister Aroop Biswas was questioned by the police regarding alleged mismanagement during Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour event in Kolkata last year. Biswas, a Trinamool Congress leader, appeared before Bidhannagar South Police Station following a notice served by the police. This questioning marked his second appearance in connection with the case.
The police inquiry is part of an ongoing investigation initiated after an FIR was filed by the event’s organizer, Satadru Dutta. Dutta accused Biswas of involvement in the mismanagement and chaos that occurred during Messi’s appearance at Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake on December 13. Biswas had previously missed multiple summons before appearing with interim legal protection granted by the Calcutta High Court.
Allegations against Biswas include his role in security lapses, organizational failures, and crowd mismanagement during the high-profile football event. Dutta claimed that Biswas acquired around 22,000 event tickets through his official position and either distributed or sold them. Despite the change in government, Dutta reiterated his accusations against Biswas, leading to an extended protection period until August 17 for the former minister to cooperate with the investigation.
