In a significant development within the Trinamool Congress, former West Bengal Minister of State for Finance, Chandrima Bhattacharya, has resigned from all party posts and aligned herself with the rebel faction led by expelled legislator Ritabrata Banerjee. Bhattacharya, who previously held key responsibilities in the state cabinet, cited a lack of consultation in budget preparations as a reason for her decision.
Following her resignation, Bhattacharya met with Ritabrata and other MLAs from the rebel faction, expressing her stance on the current situation. She revealed that despite her role in presenting the state budget annually, she was not involved in its preparation and was only briefed hours before the presentation in the assembly. Bhattacharya emphasized her loyalty towards Mamata Banerjee but felt compelled to step down due to recent events.
Trinamool legislator Kunal Ghosh, remaining loyal to Mamata Banerjee, criticized Bhattacharya’s move, questioning her timing and motives. Ghosh highlighted Bhattacharya’s significant roles in the past cabinet and expressed disappointment over her decision to join the rebel faction after the party’s recent electoral defeat.
