Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has received a four-year suspension for declining to provide a sample during an out-of-competition anti-doping test, as announced by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). Vondrousova, a 26-year-old Czech star and winner of the Wimbledon women’s singles in 2023, cited stress, mental health issues, and safety concerns for her refusal during the incident in December 2025.

An independent tribunal reviewed Vondrousova’s justifications and the testimony of the Doping Control Officer. They concluded that there was no valid reason for her actions, leading to an extension of her provisional ban until June 21, 2030. Despite being ranked 122 in the world, Vondrousova will face a significant setback in her career due to the suspension.

ITIA’s chief executive, Karen Moorhouse, emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the sport and safeguarding against cheating through rigorous testing procedures. Moorhouse highlighted the professionalism and training of testers, ensuring the safety and welfare of both players and testing staff during the process.

Vondrousova, known for her historic Wimbledon victory in 2023 and other notable achievements in her career, is prohibited from participating in any ITF, WTA, ATP, Grand Slam tournaments, or national tennis association events while under the ban. Her accomplishments include reaching the French Open final in 2019, winning silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and achieving a career-high ranking of world No. 6 in 2023.
