Former world No. 4 tennis player, Holger Rune, has decided to withdraw from both the Hamburg Open and Roland-Garros tournaments. Rune, a 22-year-old Dane, had planned a comeback after a previous injury break but has now delayed his return. He expressed his disappointment at missing the tournaments, especially Roland-Garros, known for its significance to him.
Rune explained his decision, stating that he wants to ensure he is fully prepared to compete in a tournament rather than just a few matches. Despite missing the clay season, he looks forward to returning for the grass-court season. The tennis player expressed gratitude for the support received during his rehabilitation period.
The withdrawal of Rune from the tournaments has opened up a spot in the Roland-Garros main draw for Benjamin Bonzi. Rune’s ranking is expected to drop significantly due to missing these events, falling from virtually No. 43 to around No. 60 after the French Open. His 2025 season was disrupted by a severe Achilles tendon injury in October, leading to surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Before his injury, Rune had a 36-22 win-loss record in 2025, as per the ATP Win/Loss Index. The tennis player has been diligently working towards his return to the tour, which has now been postponed due to his decision to withdraw from the upcoming tournaments.
