Formula E is set to showcase its new Gen4 cars with a record-breaking 21-race calendar for the 2026-27 season. The calendar will span 13 venues, including new additions like the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Brands Hatch in Britain, and Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Additionally, a new sprint format called “E-Prix Unleashed” will be introduced during double-header weekends.
Series co-founder Alberto Longo emphasized the importance of having a second event in the United States, with Austin being chosen for its compatibility with the new cars. Longo expressed similar sentiments about Zandvoort, highlighting its successful history in Formula 1 and the strategic partnerships in the region.
Brands Hatch will replace London’s ExCeL Circuit as Formula E’s British base due to the enhanced capabilities of the Gen4 cars. Longo mentioned plans to optimize the historic Kent circuit layout to better suit the new machinery and technology.
Despite incorporating more permanent circuits into the calendar, Formula E remains committed to its street racing ethos. Longo affirmed that the championship’s core identity revolves around racing in major city centers worldwide, prioritizing fan entertainment and showcasing the cars’ performance and technology.
Drivers like Mitch Evans and Jean-Eric Vergne welcomed the expanded calendar, acknowledging the need for a balance between permanent facilities and street tracks with the faster Gen4 cars. While expressing a preference for street circuits, they recognized the necessity of larger tracks to accommodate the evolving capabilities of the new cars.
