Four important bills are set to be introduced in the West Bengal Assembly on Monday. These bills include amendments to the Backward Classes Commission and OBC Reservation, along with measures aimed at curbing corruption and unruly behavior in the state. However, there is uncertainty surrounding the potential introduction of a Uniform Civil Code Bill, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari possibly announcing the formation of a committee led by a retired Supreme Court judge to finalize the blueprint for this proposed bill.
After discussions emerged following the Chief Minister’s arrival at the Assembly on June 25, there were indications that the Uniform Civil Code Bill might be presented during the upcoming session. Despite advocating for the bill in his earlier speeches, it remains unclear whether it will be tabled on Monday. The BJP’s legislative party has allocated time for deliberations on the Uniform Civil Code Bill, with plans for the Chief Minister to be the primary speaker in support of the bill.
While preparations have been made by the BJP’s legislative party, the official business schedule for Monday currently lists the other four bills without mention of the Uniform Civil Code Bill. This discrepancy has led to confusion regarding the government’s intentions with respect to this particular legislation.
