In a disturbing incident in Pakistan, four men reportedly gang raped a woman in a van in the Baga Sheikhan area under Rawat police jurisdiction in Punjab province. Special police teams are working to apprehend the suspects, with raids underway. The victim underwent a medical examination following the assault, as per reports by Pakistan’s leading daily Dawn.

The victim’s mother filed a police report, stating that her 19-year-old daughter, married for five years, was shopping for her children when she boarded a van to Rawat Bazaar. During the journey, the conductor locked the door and diverted the vehicle. The victim was then forced into another van in Chak Beli Road, where she was assaulted by the accused.

The perpetrators took the victim to the Baga Sheikhan area, where they assaulted her in the vehicle while driving around different roads. They later dropped her near Chak Beli Morr. The accused threatened the victim and recorded a video of her. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the case and lodged a complaint.

A recent report by the Human Rights Council of Pakistan highlighted 258 rape cases reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in 2025, with only one conviction. The report also revealed that a significant percentage of gender-based violence cases go unreported in the region. The council called for legislative measures to protect women’s rights and enhance their safety.
