Three women and a man were swept away by strong currents while bathing in the Son River at Bhanvarsen Ghat in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district. One woman’s body was found during the rescue operation, while efforts are ongoing to locate the other three individuals. The incident occurred in the Rampur Naikin police station area when the group entered the river for bathing.
The group got caught in deep water and strong currents, leading to their disappearance and causing panic among onlookers at the ghat. Search and rescue operations were promptly initiated by teams from the local police station, outpost, and administration. Local residents also joined in the search efforts to find the missing individuals.
A young woman’s body was recovered nearly half a kilometer downstream from where they vanished. Identified as Jyoti Sen, she hailed from Budha Baur village in Maihar district. The remaining missing persons were identified as Subhi Sen, Neelu Bais, and Lakhan Kewat. Rescue teams are working diligently to locate them under administrative supervision.
Authorities suspect that the victims might have been trapped in a deep whirlpool due to the river’s strong currents and deep eddies. The circumstances that led the group to Bhanvarsen Ghat and into the river are under investigation. The search operation continued late into the evening with a strong presence of police and administration officials at the site.
